Default Ad/Referral Revenue, Fact or Fiction

I'm curious if any of you have had any success generating revenue from your real-estate websites by hosting ads? I'm sure the readers would also like to know what your experiences have been. What worked for you or didn't work for you?

What any self respecting webmaster will tell you that any revenue generated via hosted ads is generally going to pale in comparison to what you make selling real estate, and if you lost even one deal at your average home sale price, it would constitute a much larger loss than you will ever gain from showing ads.

I have made some money from past ads but really would not recommend it. I only had google adsense ads on mortgage education section of my blog. I also had three small banner style ads for mortgage companies in my area. I did this all when I was selling real estate in Washington State.

My advice to real estate agents would be to run away from PPC ads. You cannot control the content. It's easy to end up displaying an ad for a competitor, FSBO site or worse right on your page.

Banner ads may have some value to an agent. You can control who, what and when. However, unless you get a few thousand visitors to your site daily, advertisers will not pay much.
