Default Your Name or Real Estate domain

Hello,

I have my name as a domain and I also have a 'real estate' domain name.

My question is, do you guys have different sites for yourname.com and the real estate page?

I was thinking my name site should be more about me (professional, no personal stuff)

My real estate site would be just real estate.

In the past, my name domain was my one and only site. I am starting to think that is not the best idea. I think there should be two different sites.

I've also heard of people doing a site for sellers and a site for buyers.

any thoughts?
Angela

From experience it's a lot easier to manage one web property and put all your effort in to it. If you go with the real estate domain name it becomes an asset of your business. Your name is obviously always tied to you.

After running some tests I have found recall to be higher with a brandable real estate domain name, as long as it is short & snappy.

EG: townrealestate.com is better than buy-in-town-today.com

On the other hand you are the product & the brand. Personally, as a new agent, I would go with the realestate version as long as it passes the domain name tests.

1) Easy to say over the phone without having to spell it out
2) No confusion over how to type it (buy2day.com Vs buytoday.com)
3) Domain name length (short is good, hyphens are bad)
4) Stick with top level domains (.com is best, .ca or country variation 2nd best, .net if it is a good one)
5) If possible getting KW or two in the domain doesn't hurt

We have PrestRealty.com as our main site, but then we own the company so that changes things. When we worked for another broker we had a RE related domain, we've never bothered to get out names.

The reason I ask, is in my marketing classes we were taught that you should have different marketing messages based on what you are trying to attract. So if I am attracting buyers, my website domain and website should be all reflective of buying real estate. Also with the selling side.

then my 'name' would be more like my own little corporate site. it would cover all things / services that I provide

something like P&G. They have a million products. On the P&G website, it talks about the services and products for but for a more details on those products you go the the indivdual websites for tide or soap.

maybe I am just making this harder then what it needs to be.

I stuggled with this question while in development of my residential site. I finally decided to go with my name which is daviscompany.com. I own a host of other domains ( they arent live) that are austin real estate related. I finally came to the decision to go with daviscompany.com over another because the other real estate related domains that I have arent good ones. All the good ones are taken. If I owned austinrealestate.com or austinhome.com -- I would have certainly used that over daviscompany.com ( austinrealestate.com is for rent for $2300 a month--wow)

I think there are so many ALMOST GOOD real estate related domains. But they arent memorable and distinct. Crateandbarrel.com is better than dishes.com . If you want your customers to remember something I am just thinking it should be something that re-enforces the brand.

I have one real estate related domain. The one on my signature here.

Any suggestions on what to do with a "name" domain? I'm running a real estate named domain, but I also have my name as a domain. I know I need to do something with it, but I'm not real sure what to throw up there.

I have my own name domain as well. I just have that domain "pointed" to my website.

@Angela - I feel you can accomplish marketing buying & selling services from the same site. Your on page content for each will carry a different message as you are addressing different needs.

When it comes down to it YOU are the product. Buying and selling are functions of what you do for your clients.

That's true. I think what I am going to do is just have different landing pages based on a marketing message that I am trying to do.

..right now I just have my name pointed to my 'free' site with my broker, and i am going to work on the content for that and work on the content for my other site that is in the works.........

Personally I would name both my company and domain with a easily brandable name. Biggest reason is I think it is normally easier to sell YourTownRealEstate than your personal name. I may be well off though.
