What counts in social bookmarking?
With all of the widgets and gadgets who can keep up?
How much is needed and how much is overkill and how much does it really matter to have an account with all of the different sites?

For anyone reading this thread. go to socialmarker this site lists out all the major social bookmarking sites. yes, only the ones that count. they'll even tell you which ones provides a dofollow.

Be careful with social marker. If you get carried away, it can look quite unnatural. Google doesn't like unnatural.

I did it and I found that a lot of the sites are not taking new registrations. I also found that the ones I did manage to post on increased my SERPS.

I use them to book mark my sub pages and get new sites out of the sand box fast. All of my sites have benefited from this little tool.

What counts in social bookmarking is participation. And by that I mean actually submitting stuff that has nothing to do with your site in most cases.
As for "automating" the process of social bookmarking with services like socialmarker I would stay away from. As you wouldn't want your site blacklisted from social bookmarking sites. Besides most of those sites with the exception of tipd and propeller and mixx would not have any interest in real estate related bookmarks.
