Default Just when I thought...

I thought that I had learned that the sequence was buy new domain, (check the archive first to avoid potential issues), create site, start building links, pay for inclusion in MSN bCentral (I still have URLs left from initial purchase), then wait for the search engines.

My expectations had become that MSN would get the site in days - results of bCental, then weeks to a month later Yahoo would find site, then after several months start watching for Google to cache the site...

Anyway I purchased the domain JunoBeachFloridaUSA.com and 2 days later google caches the site!!!!! Still no MSN (even with bCentral) or Yahoo.

Don't figure

anyway the new site is Juno Beach Florida USA

David, via backlinks your new domain can be indexed by all three (3) of those SE's in less than 72 hours. I did this exact same thing three (3) weeks ago.

It's not uncommon to see a brand new site get cached in just a few days. Being included in the search results is a different story.

Still after never being able to get my KeysToFlorida.com site even cached in Google after investing so much time into the site. You can only begin to understand how good it is to have my Ocean30.com site with 300+ pages now cached in Google and then to have this site get the home page cached in less than 48 hrs - this is good for the belief that the time I am investing will be returned in results!!!

Thanks again for all the assistance!

Dave

No - I decided to stick with the new version of Frontpage. I started to switch and decided that content and link building would be a better use of my time.

Suprises me because in my past I coded in Java, SQLWindows, and several other frontend tools. I just don't think that FP is that bad anymore.

I actually helped a friend build a site in FP 5 years ago (lupustennessee.org) and it's still holding it's own. However, the FP support forum was total crap. Is it any better now?

Nashvegas....I think there is some confusion about your tools. Frontpage and Dreamweaver are web development tools used to edit/build websites, open-realty is a developed site template primarily for real estate related sites.

I personally have used OR in the past and found that it works fairly well if you are not overly web development literate and it is a fairly small real estate website with a hand full of agents. Pretty much other than that it has far too many useless features, although me thinks some here will disagree.

OR is a dynamically driven real estate listing management program. It can be used for any size firm up to hundreds of agents and hundreds of thousands of listings. We recently converted an IDX with 60,000 listings for OR. I am presently running a site with 8 agents, 2300 listings and over 4000 pages. I am working on a site which will incorporate 5 IDXs from 5 MLSs, have ~20,000 listings, 30 agents and in access of 20,000 pages.

OR uses a template because the majority of the pages are dynamically generated. The template is a shell to hold the content and provides a consistant look and feel throughout the site. You can use any design, custom or otherwise, for the template, the main requirement is, it has to be wide enough to display the listings. You can even use DW or FF to build the template. (What a horrible thought)

A major benefit of OR is that it is open source with an enthusiastic support community backing it. There is abundant free and fee-for-service support. Best of all you are not tied into one supplier because there are hundreds of template designers and programmers familar with the system.

The only reason I can imagine anyone choosing to go it their own or buying a commercial product is for convenience.
