Default Going Wide

I was talking to Morgan the other day and he said it may be cheaper if I want to go wide to just buy an REW wide template for the promotional rate of $399 and then pay for the customizations that I need, for example the suckerfish drop downs, going wide on my blog(or maybe if I go wide that may include a wide blog also, I'm not sure, and then whatever else I need to go wide)

I think I was quoted long time ago when you first came out with the wide templates but I don't remember what it was.

Can somebody please look at my site and tell me which way would be cheaper to go with a wide template, buying the promotional new template or just going wide on an hourly rate for whatever I need. Please give me a breakdown of which way would be cheaper and how much, hopefully before Wednesday so I can make a decision. Thanks REW for your time.

Hi Mark - I'm not sure about the other costs (hopefully Aaron knows), but here is the estimate for widening your site:

To modify your site to "go wide", you should be prepared for investing at least this much:
1 hour - Widening Header
1 hour - widening slideshow
2 hours - widening template page
1-2 hours - widening Blog page
(and you would want to widen the iframe on your search page, which I imagine you would do yourself)

Mark, I guess the only other thing you need to know is how much it would be to get the newer, wide template and to implement whatever add-ons you have in mind.

So, $399 for the wide template, $150 (promo price) for the suckerfish.

I don't think there's anything else to be re-done, if you simply got a new template and moved over your CMS content and blog.

The prices are comparable! But I'd guess that it would be cheaper and perhaps less complicated to widen the existing site.

Okay Gerry instead of spending 1-2 hours widening my blog what if I just went with the new REW 2.0 Blog for $150. Would that take care of the widening on its own just because I went with the REW 2.0 Blog? Also how much to bring over my multi-user function I just recently added, to the new blog 2.0?

Hi Mark,
Unfortunately, you have CMS 1, so you can't get the 2.0 blog unless you also upgrade to CMS 2 (about 5 hrs for your site, because it involves a new template install, content transfer, new cms install and placing content on it - basically).

So, let us know if you'd like the designers to widen your site, or let us know if you have other questions or suggestions. Cheers Mark!

So Gerry are you saying I need an additional 5 hours plus the 5-6 hours above to go wide? Or if I go wide that will take care of the upgrade to CMS 2?

If you upgrade to CMS 2, then you can order the promo blog for the reduced price and, as you pointed out above, that would (potentially) save you a bit of money in the widening of the current design (you should take this route if you've always wanted CMS 2.0). (So that's 4 hrs for the widening, $150 for the blog promo, and 5 hours for the cms upgrade.)

Otherwise, you could just get the wide template and get suckerfish again ($399 template promo + $150 suckerfish promo).

The prices are comparable!
