Hi all,
a couple of questions. 1. How often should we resubmit our sites to the big three search engines. 2. Google caches my main page daily but not internal pages. On the 4th I ran a test and submitted my websites system generated sitemap to both Google and MLS. Google and MSN found all the pages within one day. So, should I submit my sitemap or just the main page? My website provider doesn't have the capibility to install Google Sitemaps yet on my site but that is in there next upgrade. 3. When I create a new page should I submit just that page or the whole site? Thanks for the help!

The answer to all 3 is never.
Search engines are crawler based and the best way to get your pages into the search engines is build relevant links from other sites. If an internal page is really important to you, you could even build links to that page with the keyword you are targeting with it as anchor text. The more links you build the more spiders will visit, and thus the more activity, As long as your sitemap is html links the spiders should find the internal pages just fine on thier own.

Although it is useful to have a google sitemap and that needs to be submitted once. Once they know where it is and what it's called they will return routinely.

One more note...the more fresh your content the more often they will visit. If your site is stale, they might not be back as soon as a fresher site.

i am agree with seo-guy and i will say that if any page is too deep (in third or fourh level) and that page has further links, then you should try to give link first page or some links from outside also so that all further page get indexed by google bot.

Hi Morgan,
Do you believe in sitemaps as being important in SEO? I didn't see any sitemaps in any of your client websites. Last edited by Falcon Living; 07-15-2005 at 03:37 PM. |

A functional sitemap is useful if you have a very large site with architecture that has links 3-4 clicks deep, or if you really needed a sitemap for the users - however in real estate sites typically a sitemap isnt required because almost all the main links of our sites are listed on the main pages, or at worst one click away from the homepage so really the site itself is a sitemap and making one isnt required.
But do I believe in them? Yes. Do I make one for all my sites? No Quote:

you dont need to resubmit, just get a link from a high pr since those sites are frequently visited by bots.

More frequent content updates = more frequent spidering.

also inbound links to secondary pages help as well. get links for your main page, but mix it up a bit as well and get some links to some pages deeper inside your website as well.
