Let's say i am trying to rank for the KW phrase "Buffalo NY Homes". Would G see a difference b/w "Buffalo NY Homes" and "Buffalo, NY Homes". Or would the comma not effect the KW phrase?

Google is your friend. Type the above searches into the big g and see what happens, then expand the searches and see what happens.
Advice from forums can not replace your own independent research, in fact, it can sometimes lead you astray.

I agree with this statement because My results in Canada would differ then yours would in your own local area. Google just went a lot more local about 6 weeks ago.

Of course... When in doubt, try it. Thanks BT

Agree very much on the testing yourself - even if you don't currently rank for that phrase you can watch some that do. Testing is probably advice we don't give often enough here.

I don't see any difference for my keywords when I add a comma

I think that is what Bigtoe was trying to point out. Google filters out extraneous information. While I have been guilty of not putting commas where they should be for SEO purposes, it would not have mattered within G to punctuate properly.

I haven't tested it but it seems to me that the comma would make a difference when used in anchor text. Commas are used in tags to separate keywords. So it's possible that the algo would read a comma as either puncuation (ignored) or a tag separator.
Plurality makes a big difference. The algorithm sees them as different keywords. |
