So I have been working on my site for awhile. I am in austin which seems to be a pretty competitive market. Anyway I was looking at the history for one of the agents ranked pretty high for multiple top keywords in google. Anyway he only had 10 sales last year. Is this typical? I was expecting more. Considering that multiple sites in our market have around 9000 backlinks i was expecting the top few sites to generate more leads.
I am asking because I dont expect to overtake these sites but was expecting to rank high for less sought after keywords. But does this mean I will only get 2 or 3 leads a year? Possibly my expectations were overblown. That or the agent I looked into is farming out his leads to other agents.

We have a top ranked site in Minneapolis which I believe gets between 5-15 leads per day, I would really have to confer with Jeff on exact #'s but I am pretty sure his team closed over 50 sales this year so far, perhaps more - I will see if I can get him to post here.
Remember it also relies on the agents ability to close the leads, 10 sales does not mean they got few leads, it may mean that they just couldnt follow up and close the deal

Also, it depends on how you capture leads, activley or passivley. By this I mean if you have an MLS search on your site and require a potential home buyer to login and provide their contact information before showing search results you are capturing this lead activley. This method will generate a higher number of leads including alot of junk leads that you'll waste your time contacting.
On the other hand if you allow them to search freely and give you their contact information when their ready you'll get fewer leads but of higher quality. It's realy a double edge sword as in the second case you may loose a few potential leads that wander off and find another source. On the other hand in the first case you may waste alot of time following up dead leads.

Thanks for info that was very helpful. I was about to wonder if this was all for naught.
