i am extremely interested in getting involved in chicago real estate. i am currently a student at michigan state but will be graduating in december. my degree is in constructioin management.
i was thinking of trying to get into sales for a builder/developer in the area selling new condo's and lofts. do you have any information or opinions on that type of real estate? do you think it would be hard to get hired by that type of company with little to no experience? do u still have to have a real estate license doing that type of sales? any information you could give me about the area or anything else would be greatly appreciated. i thought it may be an easier start working for a builder/developer because i know for myself i would probably not have the start up money needed to be an agent for a firm or broker. i think this is something i could do really well at given the chance. also, if anyone has any companies in mind from the area please let me know. thank you, jeff |

Jeff,
I'm assuming you mean "downtown" Chicago. Although I do a little selling in & around the Loop, I work mainly in the southwest suburbs. I have worked for builder/developers of new home subdivisions and each one is different. The two I worked for didn't care if I was licensed & I was able to list properties of the new construction buyers. I had already been in real estate for a long time before doing this (I was just always interested in working a new construction site). I'm not too familiar with builders in the Loop & surrounding areas. Maybe one of our Chicago agents/brokers could be more helpful. Some builders don't want licensed agents & I'm not sure about experience. However, it only makes sense that they would want to be assured of hiring a "closer" so you'd somehow have to prove that to them without experience to back it up. Best of luck to you!
