Default Speed of LEC 4

Hi Guys. I'm just inquiring about the difference in load time from my old template vs my new lec 4. I've gotten a couple of comments from users who say the new site is slower than my old one, is there anything about the LEC 4 that makes the load times slower? Is there any way to increase the speed? Thanks

You went from a template to a custom site with far more complex markup and features, there is going to be somewhat of a performance hit.

You might to consider the "premium server" its a step up in costs, but a much higher powered server cluster with much less draws on bandwidth and resources so is generally faster.

I am having the same issue and I am on the premium. Our subdivision search drags to the point where people leave or think something is wrong when they do a subdivision search. I have the lec 2, but the issue seems to be same?

I have also had some complaints from users that the LEC 4 is slower than my previous custom. I am also on the premium server so I guess this is just part of having the LEC 4.

It's definitely slower than my old template, but as Morgan pointed out the pages are quite a bit more complex and thus there is more to download.

As I am building my LEC4 site, the main are pages are starting to taking longer to load.

I am going to upgrade to the premium servers as that was a huge improvement on my template site.

My questions are what should I avoid in building the site and pages that will slow the site down?
Does having lots of pages slow the entire site down?
Does having lots of snippets slow the entire site down?
Or does having lots of snippets or graphics/ page matter more?
Does deleting seldom viewed pages or unused snippets speed up the site?

I thought the stats snippet seemed to really slow down my other site. I pulled it off the home page, and put it on its own page with a link from the home page. I think that helped but am not certain.

There is no performance hit to have many pages or snippets. It is the amount of code on a page (snippets / graphics) that will give you the most difference.

Make sure that the images you use are small (less that 20 K). and try to have as few complex snippets per page as possible.

Some snippets are pretty simple (print this html) some are more complex. Things that query data from something like the IDX or an RSS feed will be slower. Try to have less of them on a page.

Hope this helps.
