When I search in google for "site:www.mywebsitename.com", I get a result of about 350 indexed pages. Well, OK. Not as many pages as I would like to have indexed, but give it time.
Recently, I have been getting 1 or 2 registrations per day on my website from people that are searching for a specific address or MLS #--long tail searches. Google seems to be putting my detail listing pages in the #1 spot on the search results and people are clicking through to me. Great! Now here's the interesting part. When I scroll through the 350 or so pages that google has indexed for me, these pages that people are finding on long-tail searches ARE NOT in my indexed pages. So, how is google finding these pages if they are not indexed? Apparently, these are "stealth" indexed pages that people are finding. I wonder how many of my web pages google knows about, but won't admit it! Anyone have some insight on what's happening here? Thanks!

If you want to see another number for your page count, then you can look in google webmaster tools and that will give you a count that is different then the one Google displays with the 'site:' operator.

Those Google search things are completely inaccurate. I don't think any of them work right. They are probably just based on old data.

That's exactly what I've found as well. Though I do think Google's numbers give you an indication of what has been indexed.
My Google indexed pages just went from 1,000 to about 2,000, which means to me that the blogging I've recently done is having a positive effect.

It sounds like you're not finding those pages via the site: command...
Are they also not being found using the cache: command? (As a side note -- I use the cache: command way more often than site: In fact, I rely on whether a page/site was recently cached as more of a factor than PR. (ie: cached within the last week = good, not cached for 90 days == spam site.)

In terms of the site: command, I prefer Yahoo over Google anyway since it's pretty apparent that Google doesn't show all of their cards.
(Hopefully Yahoo's services won't go away with the recent merger.)

Thanks for the tip on "cache:". I haven't ever checked Yahoo for site stats. I'll give it a look.

Yeah - I've often found pages that have been cached that aren't on "site:"

That definitely shows the advantage of having a good IDX integrated into your site. My site is new and my budget is limited, so all I have been able to add so far is a free IDX tool that goes into an non-indexable iframe.
