Question Google Sand Box Effect

We have recently changed our domain name within the last few months, leaving a PR5. I have heard and read very little about the sand box effect. I have heard different things from all over. Some people suggest that you forward the entire domain to your new domain. Some people say redirect all of your pages to existing pages on the new domain. Some people say " What in the heck are you talking about?" Any input or suggestions here?

my suggestion would be to just use a 301 redirect on your old domain to the new domain. Morgan will probably have a better answer than me on this though. He's done it a lot more than I have had to.

Exactly, this should also carry over your PR and is cosidered friendly by SE's.

I don't know the details of how, but when I changed one of my domains I did the 301 redirect. It helped, but what I heard later was that I should have also redirected the pages that had good placement to pages in the new site.

Best of luck in your efforts.

I did a domain name change & 301 redirected my old to my new default domain. However, I went back to all reciprocal link partners & asked them to change my link to the new one. Not all of them did but many made the change.

The 301, sadly, will not help you dodge Sandboxing. It will give GG another "attempt" to throw you in there, and I've seen this happen many times. If you want, you can send an e-mail to Google through their webmasters help form with the subject line "canonicalpages" - all one word.

Tell them you're moving your site and have instituted a 301 and would like all pages that formerly pointed to the old domain to point to the new one. That may help.

Yeah, I certainly feel I was penalized for my domain name change. I didn't get out of the sanbox for more than 1 year, year and a half, maybe longer (I didn't know anything about this stuff when I first started my web site so didn't keep these dates written down).

I'm starting up my first new site since February 1998 (because realestateabc.com was an ongoing project that developed into more than 25,000 pages. It will be interesting to see how the sandbox works.

However, since it will be totally new and different from www.realestateabc.com, with completely original material, I don't expect to really be a viable site for some time.

If you go to Google and type in HomeSurfer, it shows up number one right now, but there is basically nothing there yet.

Of course, no one will ever search for "homesurfer"....
