Alexa - Much Value
I am curious as to the value of Alexa? Does a higher trend ranking in Alexa create higher page rankings or make it easier to get into any other search engines?

I really don't understand Alexa ranking. I think the score is related to how much traffic a site receives compared to similar sites.

How does Alexa or any search engine for that matter know how much traffic that you get. Can they somehow read my servers stats program?

Its based only on the people who have downloaded the Alexa toolbar. Whenever you browse a web page, a separate request goes to Alexa telling them which page you browsed. They collect these statistics and display the top traffic sites. Alexa rankings are not always very good because the only represent a small subset of the web surfing population. Nonetheless they can give a ballpark figure on how much traffic a site gets from the "popular" crowd (i.e. those who use defaults; AOL, Windows, Alexa and other spyware programs).
For a really good source on web site traffic, check out stats on AdBrite where web sites go to advertise. Every time a page is loaded, it logs the traffic so you can get good stats on total visitors and total unique visitors. These can be very useful tools for someone looking to advertise.

So if people do not have the Alexa toolbar installed and running on there machine Alexa doesnt look at the value of the hit from there search?
