Default Adding a WP Blog to my site

Hey all, this may have been gone over and over and over so my apologies if this is old stuff. My site has been crafted from simply html and css and all of the tutatorials on integrating a wordpress blog into my site say the site should be php and css.

How hard is it to convert a site from a basic html/css to a php/css site?

Not sure where you read this but it's not exactly true as stated.

WP uses PhP and Css, but that has nothing to do with your site.

All you need for a WP blog is sql database. It's very easy to install this. Search G for wordpress installation. There is a 5 step guide to installing.

Should take you no more than 1 hour depending on your comfort level with your backend. WP installs take me 15 mins for basic installation.

If I can do it, anyone can

It depends on how you want to integrate WordPress into your site. WordPress is written in php and use mysql as a database.

To get started check with your host to make sure you can have a WP site and if they have Fantastico or Simple Scripts which will save a lot of time and effort on installation.

Next find a theme you like--premium or free-- and install it. You can actually search wordpress.org for free themes through your wordpress admin and install them automatically. My personal choice for premium themes is ithemes but there are many free themes available. Then configure and personalize the theme. It's possible to move a complete site to WP in a matter of hours. Wordpress.org has many tutorials for beginners. Read them first to save time.

Alternately, you can hire someone to do the installation, configuration and customization for you.

If you need encouragement to get started look at the number of people on this site who use WordPress. Most of them have only good things to say about WP.

Good luck

I am not sure that you should convert your site with the same design to wordpress, there are much better themes that you can use out there for a few dollars. The main work is customizing the theme and to make sure the linking structure is kept so that your site does not loose any ranking, since you have quite a few static links to pages with specific content.

You are welcome to drop me a line if you need help.

There are several ways to integrate wordpress and listings management. I have one that I use for my clients and there are several open source realty plugins available at wordpress.org that integrate various listings management programs seamlessly. Many webmasters believe there are inherent SEO advantages in wordpress which in turn enhance the listing management sections of the website.

"inherent SEO" - Yes, it is not a belief it is a fact, mostly due to the well built themes that are out there and the WorPress infrastructure that allows a non tech savvy person to run a smoothly SEO crafted site.

I agree with WPRealty…there are many nice blog themes on the internet that you can get for free or pay for a premium blog theme. The process of converting your site over to a blog is not too easy if you are unfamiliar with the process. Depending on how many pages you have in your site, it will take some time to migrate those pages over to a blog. If you are looking to take advantage of the SEO benefits of a blog, you may want to think about creating a sub-directory and installing Wordpress in that directory along with the blog theme of your choice.
