Default I can't get in the Google Serps...

For some reason, we don't come up in the SERPS at all for google. We're indexed and are a PR4 site. We're doing fine on yahoo and msn though, for the keyword phrase "houses for rent".

Any ideas on how to get in the google SERPS? We've also submitted to DMOZ about 6 months ago but haven't been added there either.

Tom,

I don't know if you read one of my last Google posts; but it took my oldest site over a year, probably closer to 2, to finally get "spit out" of Google's sandbox. I went from nowhere to position 2 and have been at #6 for a while (was hoping I'd keep rising up & am working at it).

This is for a niche area site so the kw's aren't the most competitive, either. I did go through a domain name change, though, so I'm sure that took it's toll.

I've studied DMOZ & have never submitted as it's difficult for many real estate sites to get accepted, especially template type sites. Even my "made from scratch" site doesn't have enough content IMO to be submitted to DMOZ yet. As soon as I feel it's the best it can be (for the most part), only then will I submit (and per their detailed instructions).

Hi Judy,

SEO-Guy claimed that there were no editors to the DMOZ in the chicagoland real estate area. I dont know how he figured it out but I think he is right. Those pages have not been edited in a long while.

Thanks, it seems like DMOZ has been asleep at the wheel.. resources-zone.com also removed their forums pertaining to DMOZ status checks .. I wonder if there's anything else I can do to get in the google SERPS? we're indexed and ranked .. just no serps ..

Besides trying to follow the Google "rules", patience would be the next step.

This is a pretty good read. It was written back in '02 but then updated this year. Might be one little tidbit that makes the difference for you.

Also there is an aging delay that is applied to new sites so based on how long it has been up it might just be a matter of waiting it out.

As for DMOZ they aren't needed to rank in Google. It might be a small boost, but everyone knows DMOZ has some serious issues. Doubt going forward that DMOZ will be given much weight as there has been way to many stories of editor taking bribes to give listings, editors not listing or removing their competition, entire areas without editors. Just my opinion, but it makes sense.
