I have submitted my html site map to Google and of course it came back declined (as I expected).

I have done a search and found a few Google site map generators. However when I run the programs both come out crawling my site different and creating somewhat different maps. It seems to me that the site map creators do not list nearly (not even close) all pages. It indexes most folders however no to very little of the pages inside. I'm thinking that I may have to do this manually. All though I am not looking forward to it. I'm not quite grasping the Google site map, how to go about doing it concept I guess.

Has any one here used any do it your self program? Good or bad results?

Any information on how to build Google site maps for idiots or generators would be much appreciated.

Coffee Cup software has a neat little google sitemap utility I use. It creates the xml for google as well as an html file for all the other bots.

I used a dreamweaver extension to build my sitemap, but I wasn't impressed with it not capturing all of my directory pages. I'm going to follow some of the above links to get "all" pages.

Just found this on Yahoo and though I'd suggest G-Mapper which is our free google sitemap generator.

If you have PHP installed, there is a good GPL-licensed program called phpSitemapNG that you can download from http://enarion.net/google/. Once installed, it will crawl and create an XML sitemap and even submit it to Google if you wish. It's good, particularly for larger sites because you can also choose to GZIP the sitemap.

How often should you update your XML site map: http://www.northcountyluxuryhomes.com/sitemap.xml

I noticed that the sitemap we used has a last modified date, do all of them have that? It appears that this shows the date the sitemap was created not the last time that page was modified...

So, those who are using a google sitemap, how often are you updating them?
