Is there a particular aspect of seo your having difficulty with? You dont need a mentor, you can accomplish your goals yourself. Just read around and ask questions.

Initially I was ranked top 3 in yahoo for "Singapore properties" and top 10 in yahoo for "Singapore property". After doing some editing, I was completely removed from the top rankings? Until today, I am not sure what happened on yahoo, and now I have not been able to recover my rankings. So I gave up on Yahoo and instead, tried to raise my ranking on Google. And it seems that internal ranking and changing of link text did help in raising my ranking abit.
Also, I can't really find lots of people who are willing to exchange links with me. And even if they placed a link with me, after some time, they will remove my link from their web site. So it's like I am cheated of my links. Therefore, it's like walking 3 steps forward and taking 2 steps backward. Hardwork and not working |

Roger, just keep on reading thru this forum. there are many areas to cover. If you have the time, you will get all the info you need here, otherwise you'd have to hire a professional seo to do the work for you.

Rogerdan, do you know if Yahoo has marked your site as being "abusive"? They actually review sites and make decisons on whether they are abusive or not. A buddy of mine noticed a 50% drop in Yahoo referrals over a few weeks, and then wrote an e-mail to them and asked for advice. They told him that his site did not conform to their guidelines, which as posted here:
http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/ysearc...etions-05.html Of course they didn't tell him specifically what was the matter. So now, he's having to do a complete overhaul of the site. |

Liz your site is cool!
Even though the loading takes time, still cool. |

That was strange, when I asked them whether my site was banned, they told me that my site was alright. Strange.

Rogerdan,
how long has your site been live? How long in the G index? What were the changes you made to the site when they rankings dropped? |

The site has been up for about 5 months. I think G only started about 4 months ago. The changes made were quite major each time as I keep revamping. I think the rankings dropped when I shifted one of the php directories from "housing" to "property" and the other from "office" to "office-property". Do you think those shifts changed the ranks ? |

I am sure they had something to do with it. G seems to like "new" sites for a brief period as well. Then they seem to "settle" in to the SERPs and stabilize. I am sure there were a couple of things at work there.
Doing a quick look with McDar's keyword tool on "singapore properties" your site shows 5 BL's and 230 pages. The top site has 172 BL's and 2050 pages. You are going to be hard pressed to beat that with 5 BL's. Plus, the links that show have DreamShelter as the anchor text. I would focus on getting relevant backlinks with the term you are trying to optimize for in the anchor text. As for the on page factors, make sure that the term appears in the title of the page you are optimizing, you have the term appear on the page a few times and try to use the term in some heading tags as well. |
