Here's a fairly good article on the importance of content in a Web site:

I hate to say it but that article has no real value at all.
#1. Statements like "The content must have proper content depth as well as approximately a 3-15 percent keyword density rating. To accomplish this, you need to write an informative web document which seamlessly repeats this key phrase throughout your content." Well which is it 3 or 15? There is a huge difference so basically she is just saying make sure your kw is on the page once in a while (Well duh) #2. She quotes rankings for a term "scottsdale home for sale" on everything but Google and then says don't buy into the link popularity noise or "google" will blow you down. None of her article even talks about Google. Finally she claims that propertygetaway.com/scottsdale_home_for_sale.htm holds the #1 spot in Yahoo, MSN, Hotbot and Lycos. None of them shows her page as #1 so kind of pulls the whole article into perspective. This kind of thing really isnt that helpful as it targets people who will actually take her advice without a second thought, and who knows 1 or 2 may get lucky for some obscure phrase but will they ever know why? No! Will they be able to duplicate their success on harder keyword phrases? No! In fact it instills them with the same false sense of abilitly as Jill Whalen has (The copywriting queen) Now I agree and always say that building quality content is the basis for good search engine rankings however there is a hell of a lot more to ranking for "real estate" then 3-15% density. And what happens if you do strike it rich? You copywrite your way to a fluke term, Guess what you can't ever change your website. Why? Because if you do your rankings will go down. Hmmm up to date content certainly isnt something I would want on my website. No offence Bill but this article is like me saying my car can go 300 miles per hour because it has wheels.
