about 6000 uniques per day
Client sites between 100-2000 depending on what phase of development they are, and what SEO package they went with.

Question Re: How many hits a day does your site get?

Here's a chance for somebody to educate us.

What's the definition of "hits" as opposed to "visits"?

As apposed to "uniques"?

Just interested in learning more. Thanks - Tom

A hit is generated each time your web browser requests a file from the server. That means on a given web page, each image and external file (like a Javascript or CSS file) generates a hit to the server. It's not a reliable measure.

A page view is a count of how many times a particular web page is displayed.

Finally, a visitor is typically determined by IP address. This is a more accurate method for measuring traffic, but it still has drawbacks. Your stats may show 100 visitors to your site, but 90 of them could be the same person. The best measure is unique visitors, if your stats provide this. That will tell you that 2 people came to the site generating 10 visits, and you'll know that there are a lot of repeat visitors.

It's good information to know, especially if you are buying online advertising.

The more critical question that everyone should really be looking at is how many leads or contacts are you getting per day, week, or month from your unique visitors?

To many people focus on traffic numbers. We all need to remember that we aren't building and promoting websites for the traffic. The important part is to generate leads, which will generate sales, which generates $$$.

When your new leads contact you via. phone, don't be afraid to ask if they've seen your website, or if they found you on some other site. It's an extremely important measure of your business. Without it all you can do is count hits, visitors & page views.

So, anyone care to share their real numbers? We are relatively new to the internet game, just getting the site tweaked, tuned & all info up. Still a lot of work to be done, but it is generating leads. How many? I don't know, I'll have to ask the receptionist tomorow.

If you build it, yes they will come. But how many will buy?

Hey mrmagoo, are you aware that your site presents a prohosting banner pop-up in both IE and Firefox (with Adblock enabled)?

It's totally aggravating.

No, I didn't know that. I am not running any pop up blocking software, and I've put NO pop up scripts on the page. I do have a couple of banners on the pages for prohosting, but they shouldnt' be loading pop ups.

I've never seen one load so I will ask if there is a possibility that you had your browser pirated?

Thanks, I hate pop ups - and the companies who push them. Maybe I'll just move the site to another host if I have to.

I'll start looking for the cause of it, if anyone else has a few minutes & can take a look at the code please do.

If anyone else has had any pop ups please contact me.

Thanks for letting me know.
