Default multiple pages vs. single page for same amount of information

I'm curious if search engines would rank one method above the other....

For instance... I want to target an area called Dr Phillips here in Orlando and have information about its history, real estate prices, area schools, employers, restaurants, etc. Would I better off creating multiple pages (one for each topic) or just one big content and keyword rich page?

Depending on the amount of information of course, but If each demands its own section then it should demand its own page, this is both from a usibility and an SEO perspective, people hate long scrolling pages of death

OK. I understand about the long scrolling pages. I presume there's a point of diminishing returns when it comes to content and keywords on a single page. I've seen some sites with just the bare minimum keywords, but the right density/proximity, rank very well.

Don't worry about keyword density / proximity, just write it about the topic and it will naturally have what it needs, then just title / desc / keyw and headings you're good to go. Might include some outbound links with a target_blank to a few resource sites for the area as well, assuming they are helpful and relevant to the user

That's a pretty easy rule to follow (keep it natural)

Thanks

Yeah, when it comes down to it, all good SEO is - is understanding what a search engine wants to represent (unique content helpful to the user and relevant to their query) and then trying your best to create it and draw attention to it.

Multiple pages within a separate (new) directory, with the directory name replicating the article contents (keywords).

After generating each new article, update and re-submit your google sitemap.

How about making making one page with all of the content and have links off of that page going to other more focused pages? However, you may get duplicate content issues with 2 pages of with the same content.

Bennet, why don't you try that out and we'll see how it works.

Search engines DON'T give you extra credit for putting ten pages of stuff on just one page. Search engines DO give you extra credit for taking one page of stuff and putting it on ten pages.

So...create a table of contents page for everything you could/would cover from your "HUGE" page. That's your mini-sitemap for that section. Create the shorter pages.

Just picture a tree turned upside down. Basically, that's your ideal naviagation structure, only it is a w-i-d-e fat flat tree instead of a tall, narrow one. At nexus points, creat a min-site-map for everything below.
