Google Analytics tells you everything you want to know about how your visitors found you and how they interact with your site. You'll be able to focus your marketing resources on campaigns and initiatives that deliver ROI, and improve your site to convert more visitors.

This came up in another forum and the problem some of us are seeing is it gives G a lot of information about the other search engines and your traffic. This would be fine except that Google wants to get into real estate and that scares me more than a little. I will not give access to Google to any more information than they already have.

I agree 100%. For anyone who ever wondered how Google would be able to track so much data on user activity this is one the ways.

I jumped over there & started the procedure but I was afraid to finish it. I wanted to read more about it & now I'm glad I waited. I've also read about people using it and not getting any stats anyway, so it seems to be buggy at this point in time.

Seems like G's version of urchin which was recently aquired by Google. Why is Google Analytics free? Google will find ways to use this service to aquire info about your search habits.

Here is some more info from G engineer http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/google-analytics/

If your host offers Urchin, you won't need these Analytics unless you want the AdWords features they offer. I agree they seem to be a clone of their very own Urchin 5. In fact if you read through the information they say if for some reason you can't use Analytics (firewall...) then Urchin 5 is for you!

Don't all hosts offer Urchin? We do and have for years and I thought Morgan did as well?

I'm excited to take advantage of this free feature by Google.
Still waiting for the data though after 30 hours.

As soon as I heard about Google analytics, I jumped at the chance to register. It's true that there are some issues, but they'll resolve them soon enough. I have stats now for the last 6 days.

You can use Google Analytics to do very sophisticated tracking and I think the fears that some of you express are getting in the way of a tremendous opportunity. Google will be able to aggregate the information to improve their search results, but that would be a silly reason not to use this incredible gift.
