Something pretty interesting has happened, and I'm wondering if any of you can help explain it.
I was just hired to optimize a Realtor's site. So I did the standard on-page factors (title, H1, etc.) last week. Lo and behold, five days later they've gone from #7 to #6 on Google, and from #34 to #26 on Yahoo. But here's the strange part - their site still shows the old title tags in the SERPs - so the version cached by Google and Yahoo seems to be their "pre-optimized" site. Any idea how that's happening? Is it possible for on-page optimization to boost a site's ranking while the site is still cached as an older version? And if not, then what in the heck is going on? Cheers, Zac |

SERP results are always bouncing around. Google has minor changes on a daily basis, and Yahoo just had another algo change.
Also, it may not be that your site moved up because of changes you made, but that other sites moved downward for any number of reasons.

Hi Zac, I am wondering why your client even decided to have his site optimized if he was already ranked #7 in Google.

lol...maybe because he wants #1.

I agree with Ken. I think it's been established that there's a big difference in traffic being #1 vs. #7.

There may be a difference, but just being on the first page is fine with me.

I personally prefer position 3!

I've found that position 3 and 4 is better in pay per click - sponsored ads - but I would rather have numero uno on google.

Ah ok, for PPC.
Would you mind posting the clients website? -Peter |
