I would like to know what is the best way to generate prospects from the internet. Is it cost effective to pay for leads vs. drive traffic to a website?

Great question and I have been working on the same topic myself.
What I am finding out so far it is much more valueable to have your hard earned money put into your web page and create a true NET.
By NET, I mean get your ewb page linked to as many other's web pages as possible.
Eg. Chamber of Commerce, Visitor Bureau, local business's such as restaurant's, and local companies.
Also, another tip would be to get domain names that go to your site that are mis-spells, (eg. CallRyan.com & CallRayn.com; CallRian.com are some examples.
Also keep it short and simple.

Have you considered the Housing Wanted section of Craigslist? You might also consider helping people in the Craigslist forum to establish your self as an expert in your area.
