REALS.com is one of the oldest and largest real estate directory on the web. It is even listed under most popular in the yahoo directory for real estate directory. But it doesn't come up of yahoo search.

Any one have any idea, suggestion, or similiar situation?

2 reasons I see: over-optimization, every incoming link says "Real estate directory", no spin on it. Google and yahoo know those are "artificial" links.
#2: they have like 100 sites that look the same, all directories about moving, whatever.

The SERP's see the similarities. If I was a search engine, I wouldn't like them. There is nothing unique about them but a ton of listings on their sites ... and that's what search engines are there for, right?

There is the perception that there isn't anything unique about them, and they seem to multiply with many new domains using the same set of listings. So some directories and SEs don't score them as well as one might initially think.

Wow, good find. It doesn't even come up in a search for their domain. It almost looks like they are banned from yahoo.

Yahoo must not like what they do, lots of heavily cross linked sites.

just look at homes.com and all the affiliate sites they have

I'm new to the site and SEO Jason let me know about this thread.

I heard this from another webmaster. I'm not sure whether it's true or not but here's what I was told about Reals and related directories:

"...was explaining to me that Reals and other websites owned by them use javascript redirects. So, in essence, when you go to their site and click on a page link to go to another page, it may appear in the address bar as a htm document, but it's a java redirect. This webmaster also told me that they may post a link to me, but because of their java redirect methods, search engines will never even find my link on their site...So when a search engine looks at the directory, it finds all kinds of incoming links but no outgoing ones, because it can't spider much of the pages with links on them. This is black hat SEO and can result in sites being banned."

Has anyone who exchanged links with Reals and related websites had their links on Reals spidered and indexed?

hmmm, I do believe that sometimes the redirect url, the one that reals.com uses, does count as the actual url that is linking to yours. But that is not often the case. I have seen it on occasions, but most of the time they don't help @ all!
