Default problems with Dmoz

I have had problems with Dmoz from the beginning because years ago someone else managed our sites and submitted it wrong. I have never been able to get them to correct the problem. Now at the beginning of this year my husband changed companies and he is still listed under the other company. It has to be corrected. So I wrote Dmoz explaining that and they dropped his listing instead of correcting it. I have reapplied to no avail. One concern I have always had with them is the editor for our area could most likely be another realtor. Anyway does anybody have an idea how to get through to them? I remember they had a chat room perhaps I could plead my case there. Someone have that link? Thanks

I wouldn't plead anything in that chat/forum.... they are grouchy-bitter-hurried and like a standardized way of asking and telling if your in there or not. I asked why I was not accepted and they told me they didn't know but many sites get left out because there was not enought unique information - How many other sites in the workld are there about MY real estate business HUH!?...lol.. I wish you the best of luck.. I'm left out for some reason...and hell I even edit a catagory for them!
anyhow, here is the link:

I would love to talk about dmoz but since I am postive towards the future, I cannot say something that may bite me back later

ahhh Okay at least I know I'm not being singled out
For those of you who have had problems have you notice it affecting you in anyway.. (besides your mood and wanting to throw your computer against the wall).
My sites have been up for over 5 years and rank well in most engines so... with them dropping my listing should I expect to see any ripples from the SEO gods? I mean it seems to me that Dmoz is the one with the problem why do people think they are so important if they can't even get their directory straight?

As all of our sites are test sites, and the 2 that I look after were deliberately not submitted to ODP, it was somewhat of a surprise to find that some prat on this forum had submitted at least one of them. Not even the best psychiatrists can control some webmasters behaviour.

I guess maybe some of the webmasters could be your competitors, as a result, you may encounter more dificulties than anyone when submitting your site to ODP.

I have also difficulties when submitting my site too. However, I had someone from ODP tell me that my link will be added if I had more people listing properties on my site. Well, for now I am keeping my fingers crossed. Maybe the word "more listings" will ring a bell.

Question Re: problems with Dmoz

From another thread:

Quote:
And this is an absolute fact: the rule is one site, one listing and as far as real estate submissions are concerned the only acceptable ones are those that:
a) Show the agent's name and company as the title (e.g. Jerry Hendriks, RE/MAX Garden City Realty Inc.)
b) Is submitted for inclusion in the category that applies to the office "bicks and mortar" address (e.g. St. Catharines) and no other location (regardless of where the agent personally lives or what area he/she serves).
Before you make any submission, drill down through the Open Directory project homepage until you find the appropriate regional/locations category and model your submission on the listings that are already there.
:
That might be my problem our sites are directed to the realtor not the company. I suppose I'll try and resubmit this way and see what happens. My concern is that he was listed, just with the wrong info. Perhaps I made a mistake requesting the change instead of making the change they just took him off. I wonder if mentioning the removal when submitting would help or hinder?

How much weight does DMOZ carry? Anyone?

I have had issues with them too.

Ive tried to get a listing in the Vacation Rentals category, and was recently told that my 800 properties weren't enough to be warranted a listing in the directory. I then went to look at some of the websites listed and one of them had 15 properties and had very little content.

I then found out that the editor had suggested that I was listed in my town region category, which has six websites. LOL Oh well, suppose I shouldn't grumble I have my nice Google directory.

there is nothing I dislike more (well...at least not much) than unforgiving webmasters, editors, moderators etc.

Everyone has made mistakes and holding it against someone is low and gives new people (spammers etc.) a chance to be overlooked with their bad actions.
