Default Blog - on site or off site??

Hello All,

I've heard two ideas about blogs. First, you should incorporate your blog into your website to boost the ranking on your site in the SERPs. Second, you should have a blog as a separate website so that you can interlink between the two, and have 2 chances for SERP ranking.

Which do you think is the best approach?

Thanks,

Kathleen

I went with on-site because that seemed to be what was suggested most. It's too new for me to see what the impact will be.

We reccomend onsite to add content to your core site.

I would second the onsite addition. And if you were to get secondary hosting for your blog from the same hosting company that your main site is on, chances are that you would be on the same c-class of ip hosting which would mean less value on the link.

I like having my clients link onsite as well, bringing relevance to their primary real estate business, community involvement, hobbies, etc. Yes, it is important for ranking - what my clients strive for is good information that brings the clients and prospects back to their real estate site.

I am guessing that off site is a blog that you link to your site. So an on site blog must be incorporated into the site. How is this done?

Jeeplaw, you have a good point with the comment about putting the blog on the same server.

Thanks for all the replies.

Sam,

There's popular blogging software (free) that can be installed onto your website that will allow you to do this. All it takes is one link on your menu page to put to the new blog. I've used wordpress before with good results.
