I am wondering if anyone has an opinion on the best format/ structure for a websites sitemap?

This is what I currently have: sitemap

I am wondering if it helps to have discriptions included or if just one or a few key words works better?

Well I think from a search engine perspective your sitemap should work just fine, take a look at a google sitemap and you will see that they dont use descriptions, however if you look at googles own page, you will see they use little descriptions below thier sitemap pages (Example http://www.google.com/options/index.html) although I am not sure if this is technically a sitemap or just internal page navigation.

I think if you really wanted your sitemap to be as user friendly then creating custom descriptions would be helpful, however from an SE perspective, I dont think it effects its crawlability at all.

Others thoughs?

I think a small descriptions with few keywords would be very helpful for better ranking in se's

text links will do. you are creating sitemap inorder for googlebot to crawl all your pages and not to rank for a particular kw with your sitemap...

agree too, text links are normally sufficient.
