I got a call from the above mentioned client today. She wanted to let me know that "this gentelman" named Denis ___ called and told her: "Your website is about to be banned from Google!" She didn't pay much attention to him at first, but being the sweet soul she is, she just let him talk.

I get contacted on a regular basis by SEO companies. My personal feeling is that if they have to call you to soliciate business they are probally not very good. In my opinion I wouldnt use any SEO company that wasnt refered to me by a happy client. There are way to many BS companies trying to sell you SEO services to choose one any other way.

Wow! That was an interesting read. You know, I got called the other day from the most pushy guy ever. I didn't give him much time to talk but he kept trying to get me to stay on the phone. I said, "Sorry, I'm not interested" about 3 times before finally hanging up. I'm glad he didn't call me back with threats!

Judy, you're a much nicer person that I tend to be.

Over the years, I have developed two methods that seem to work well:

1. hang up, or,

2. ask if the calling party would please hold, press the hold button, wait till the flashing light finally goes dark,

sometimes it takes quite a bit of time

I love the ones that call you and say "I was looking at your site and you don't rank so well..."

I ask them to go to Google and look up City Real Estate, City MLS, etc etc etc ...

They usually hang up on themselves...brings to mind an old Will Rogers quote--
"I never killed anybody....but I've read some obituaries with a great deal of satisfaction!"

The smile and dialers give our industry a bad name....There are much better channels to solicit business through...reputation, word of mouth, satisfied customers...etc...

Yeah that was a really interesting read....I have never been called by SEO companies...but i like the Seinfeld approach when dealing with telemarketers: Caller:"Would you be interested in a subscriptions to....." Jerry: "Well Yes I would" *hangs up the phone.... I once was talking to a lawyer for my mum, she didnt want to talk to him, family things, ANYWAYS, i got bored and so i just put the phone down and let him figure out i ditched him. Yeah....I'm nice....but I'm allowed cuz i used to be a telelmarketer and i had my fair share of nasty people. Now its my turn!

I once had a guy call me and tell me how great his SEO company was. While we were talking I did a search on his company name and found alot of bad press about them. When I asked him about it he got really mad and said, "Well what about Microsoft? They have had lawsuits against them too." Yeah buddy, but you're no Microsoft. I promptly ended the conversation.

I've mentioned this one before so I'll shorten it. I had a call about my Oak Lawn site & they told me how they could put me on the first page of all the search engines. I said I'm in position #1 & #2 on the top 3 already. There was actually silence! That was priceless!
