are not really friend... here is why...
I am managing a website for a real estate agent (da!). We rank well for some generic and niche keyword with yahoo and MSN (the site is 3 years old). Today I was looking at some of the competitor's website code.... I really have a fit with Google when they rank high a website that is a mess, with 3/4 of the page being outgoing links, with code all over the place, no alt tag, no nothing..... surely they have some links..... Sometimes I just wonder.. what are we doing here... making our code nice and fluffy, adding content, links (not too fast, not too slow), rewrite code completely.... but without all the style in the page... all external files, etcccccccc... and then I see this website using frontpage, disturbing code, use of linking strategy to a dangerous degree..... you should see the page... not readable.... but they rank on the first page of google for most of the generic and niche keywords. and then you have the new trend... using new domain name to re-direct to a website..... the new domain name has a fictitious content although somewhat connected to the theme of the target website with for links only outgoing to the target website. Then they connect all their website together to make it nice on Google..... and it works... hopefully, it won't for long...... so much for all the posts about how to code, add content for search engines.... anyway... I am rambling... just unhappy to work hours after hours and see no result. see ya guys |

too many people who "think" they know seo do not! The algorithm is fairly simple. The problem you are having is in links! Now, what department of links I can not tell without both URL's(yours and theirs) If you send them to me I will tell you exactly what to do. As far as clean code, That is a bunch of *&#"". as long as the spider can get through it(not in frames) you will be ok! and the spiders like basic HTML better than anything else! This is NOT theory it is proven. Now, Clean code would be more importanat for a national or international keyword or phrase because of the level of comp. But there are NO real estate sites out there that can not be beat!

just about any other code except css, The engines spiders seem to like css. The point is that most people over analyze everything but what need to be looked at. Like I said before, Just from the post I can tell you that this site is where it is because of links and the posters site is where it is because of links! If I am provided with the 2 sites URL's I will show everyone what the problem is.
It could be that the posters site is linking to a bad neighbor, improper anchor text, links from non relevent sites. There are many things that could be wrong with the links system. Give me the info and I will show you the problem! Jcorkern Last edited by jcorkern; 04-16-2006 at 12:23 AM. |

Hi there.. thank you for your information. Take a look at
http://www.huntersvillerealestate.com and search Google for huntersville real estate. They come up 2nd or 3rd... my point is look at that website... no content... store based.... so... what is the point of everyone talking about content and links... when this site has none of that... just a question.... the site I manage is www.shannonedwards.com thank you Richard |

Jcor, you are way oversimplifying things - however it is true that Google is much more link centric / link dependant than any other engine. Google evaluates the offpage factors (Inbound links and what kind they are) much more than any onpage element, however that is not to say you shouldnt code your website cleanly, write unique content (And lots of it) etcccccc
It's likely that the domains have older "links" (Dont confuse this with the age of the domain as you can have a 10 year old domain, but if it has never had any links it will still get sandboxed as if it were brand new)

- it looks like you are being beat by a spammer.
What a disappointment when that happens.

Lol you can't be serious!
#1 - there is no magic formula for ranking #1 in Google. #2 - Any SEO worth their salt knows the dependance relationship of offpage factors and google. There is nothing wrong with giving people advice, but your attempts to make yourself look like an SEO expert here show us nothing except that you are obviously a novice. Please do not get members hopes up with magic formulas which WILL NOT get anyone ranked in 3 months, especially not #1 Sorry, but that just annoys me. Quote:
