I understand from others that site wide links do not have as much power as they used to.

But what about using site wide linking to promote deep linking - what i mean by that is instead of having the same link with the same anchor text on each page of the linking site, have a different link that is not the home page with anchor text that supports that page deeper within the site.

Does anyone else to this with success?
