What exactly this is for?

This is to verify my site through google. Site map tracking, errors, all that good stuff.

It is a code of sorts that they will check to make sure that I am indeed the "owner" of the site.

oh cool, So they aren't asking for that empty file be created to go along with the sitemaps anymore?.

They give you a choice of some page or just adding this in your meta, then they verify it is there, then you are cleared for take off. I figured the Meta was easier.

I'll let you know if it is that easy or I run in to problems.
