i need to know is flash counting when calculating web page size and web page download time:
example flash file size : 20 kb Html page size w/o flash :10kb Total web page size = flash size + html page size OR Total web page size = html page size AND total load time = html page load time OR Total load time = html page load time + flash load time |
|

|
Total load time = html page load time + flash load time
Plus the connect speed, think flash is neat, try viewing the site using dial-up.

Definitely minimize use of flash - it's been proven to not be very usable. If you must use it, turn off the loop feature.

PC Doc is correct.
If you are talking about the site in your signature...It is a HEAVY flash file. I do have flash on my site, but it is only one element and it is designed to load pretty quickly. Even at that, mine is on the edge of being heavy. You can use flash in a limited way, but on dial up, your site would load VERY slowly... Cheers; Eric

Having an entire website published in Flash is definitely a bad idea. Search engine spiders don't pick up any clues to content listed in Flash files, so you'll be robbed of the free exposure through them. But, having supplemental content designed in Flash can be one of the best crowd pleasers your website can offer, as long as you have an experienced Flash programmer doing the work. http://www.thefwa.com/ shows off some remarkable stuff done with it. It's also a relatively new technology - Flash 8 was released just recently, and it now supports transparency in video, 3d object manipulation, and lots more. I don't think it is an unreasonable prediction that with time, more users (and operating systems/browsers) will properly support Flash. The same can be said for search engine issues. Just my thoughts, I'll bill ya for the penny.
