Red face Anyone work for Remax?

Could anyone here give me the scoop on the difference of a remax agent and other types of real estate companies? I'm curious about things like floor time, meetings, etc? I had always heard Remax took a more off to the side role as your company leaving you more "independent". Could someone who works for Remax clarify any of these questions. Thanks?

Billy, I'm with REMAX and here's the scoop as it pertains to my brokerage: floor time if you want but most of us don't take it - too busy; no meetings; no broker messing in your daily business affairs; broker does take a side role and keeps out of the way; no useless training sessions (if you're with REMAX you shouldn't need training), etc., etc. Get the picture - pretty independent way to sell real estate but if you need someone to hold your hand or listen to your 'war stories' it's not the company for you.
As an independent contractor with REMAX I renew my contract every year.I am allowed to run my business as I see fit as long as I do it in an ethical and honest manner. I (as a REMAX member) am a business within a business. My broker treats me as a 'customer' and does all he can do to keep me and the rest of the members of my office happy and productive.

Billy,

Ask away... I used to recruit for RE/MAX in Vancouver but am now and agent. Things aren't structured much differtent as we follow the US guidelines. What would you like to know?

I can only go by my experience. Like the other big boys, each office is independantly owned, so each office will have the personality of the main broker/owner.

Statistically, the average RE/MAX agent has more training, experience, than the average agent because that is what they hve gone after in recruiting, leaving the out of school recruuiting for other companies.

Interview everyone you think is worth while and go with your instincts. Choose a website address that can move from company to company so you have that choice later on.

Good luck!

P.S.- I have nothing bad to say about RE/MAX, but I also have never been with anyone else.

Basicly everything has been said, but here is a recap of my experience. Broker is really a landlord, only cares about his monthly rent check. You are your own business (as it should be), training is not really there as you should already be a producer, and no sales meetings.

One thing that is surprising to me is that Re/Max offices around here are starting to recruit brand new agents. This IMO is the worst thing Re/Max can do as they advertise heavily on their agents average years in business, average volume... and these numbers will fall if they take on to many brand new agents.

Just my opinion, but I am really much happier at Keller Williams.

I'd like to see your data on the "agents average years in business, average volume...and these numbers are falling as they take on brand new agents."
That's a pretty broad statement to make. Especially from someone who would not have access to this kind of data. Your entire post was fatuous.

As a RE/MAX agent; I would have to agree based solely on what I know of our recruiting efforts. However, I would think it would be safe to speculate that RE/MAX would still maintain slightly higher in the averages for years to come statistically speaking.

I know several RE/MAX agents that have gone to Keller Wiliams and others and vise-versa- do I go back to my (and others) original idea that it is mainly a matter of choosing who can offer what you are looking for and then which Broker do you get a long with the best in a business scense.

Example:

There is a particular Broker here in town with C-21 that will not allow his agents to use the conference room because the table is an antique, so they all crowd around in the kitchen/ break area in little kids chairs for meetings. The same broker won't allow his agents to make any price adjustments on their listings with out him reveiwing the file and authorizing the price reduction or increase as asked by the customer. I still don't get that garbage! Talk about micro-management!

Go with who you are comfortable with.

Perry that came out wrong...I have changed the wording.

As Re/Max takes on new agents they are hurting their averages and there is no way to argue that. Besides this, Re/Max has spent years and millions (if not billions) to create a brand that makes consumers think of top producers, experience, and knowledge. Then you send out a brand new agent with little training and they are now representing the Re/Max name. This just seems like one of the biggest mistakes a company with a good reputation could make.

I agree with Memphis that the numbers are probably safe for now. But that can change and that is all I was trying to say.
