Smile cc, de, tv domain names

Anyone have any idea on how these domain name extensions cc, de, tv, etc. domain names rank, if at all? I have read that they are worthless, but do any educated webmasters feel that the long term investment is possible? I know that .com will rule forever... is anything else possible? .net, is slowly progressing... any stock picks

As far as "rank", a site will rank in the search engines because of your efforts, not the domain name or extension. I think the big issue is clients/prospects remembering your url, including the proper extension. Most people have .com in their heads. Let's say you're using your name and it's kind of popular, like John Smith. johnsmith.com is already taken so you buy johnsmith.net. Will your prospects remember the .net?

No big deal if the .com john smith works in a completely different state or area. But it might confuse people and they might not try the .net. With that said, one of my sites that is continually rising in serps (it's newer), has a .net extension. However, I don't give anyone that domain name since it's too long. I have a short url with a permanent 301 redirect for my advertising purposes.

I agree with judyo. We own and operate a bunch of non-dot-coms that do just fine in the SEs, including .cc and .net. Americans just happen to remember dot-coms because 1) we created the Web using that extension and 2) we're bombarded with a thousand commercials a day promoting it.

te domain extension has nothing to do with the web site rank in SE. The inportant things are:

- the domain name before extension
- quality and unique content
- website optimization
- marketing strategy and its implementation

Hello,
I've searched Go Daddy for the availability of certain URLs for a new website. Based on what was available I'm considering the following domains for the site:

1. www.exactkeywords.net
2. www.notsoexactkeywords.com

Does the fact that the first domain has the exact keywords I'm targeting offset the fact that its a dot net extension instead of a dot com? Do the SEs still give value or having keywords in the URL?

As with my current site I don't expect a lot of people finding it by typing in the URL address. Any thoughts?

Keywords in Domain don't mean what they used to. I would look for something that is brandable before anything else and .com is king for branding.

Thanks for the response.

I'm not too concerned about the marketability of the website at this time. Obviously most of the brandable names are already taken with dot com extensions. The one I would like belongs to some guy who has collected a bunch of domain names to sell at a later date.

Is it worth paying extra $$$ just to have the dot com extension?

If you are in the country to which they apply, and a search is based on results from that country, then they would do better than .com

However, I can't see any advantage in using them, if you are not based in that country.
