Default Frames and database driven sites. Recommendations for Framed sites

What do your recommend for the framed data base driven sites?

I am working on alot of framed sites these days and doing SEO.

Besides removing the frames, which isnt practical, what can I do
to help SE ranking.

Frames are tough.

Here's a thread from SEO GUY's forum that relates to this.

That link didn't cut it for me.

My rules for framed sites (other than forget it )
* have the full menu with keywords etc in the index pages's no frames section
* every frame has to have a javascript framebuster to restore the frames so that when the page is referenced by a search engine the user gets the full site restored. This involves having the index page reading variables and loading the right page - ie it's dynamic, not static
* every body page has to have a footer menu to allow the user to navigate back to the index page and the requested page (so that non-javascript browsers don't get lost)

And on the usability front
* have to give users the ability to bookmark (usually through javascript) and email a link since the address bar doesn't change.

hope this helps.

Sarah

Hey guys and gals,

No more frame bashing... LOL. I know they are more challenging than most, but I have made some headway with mine.

Most of my site is framed and the user has no problem using the site. But my links pages, all 54 of them are out of the frame set and open in a new window when clicking from the HP. This has been very beneficial in obtaining links from quality sites since my Relocation Directory now has and passes PR. Check it out for yourself, it got PR on all pages in the last toolbar update and now my links are showing up as BL's for some people. Yipee!!!

I know it isn't perfect, but do tell me if you think I'm on the right track with this. Sarah had helped me quite a bit over the summer when I was first setting these pages up like this, static instead of framed.

You can always create a sitemap that lists teh elements with the contetn within the frames as well, then throughout that content make sure you have static text links to other non frame elements so that the spiders can see a naturally occring architecture. Frames arent really the devil, just more like a lesser demon haha but they are certainly managable.

Oh yeah and as for the dynamic part, mod_rewrite or IIS Isapi rewrite all the way depending on what kind of platform you are on.

Best of luck
