Default Default spacing

Is it too much hassle to change the default spacing?

I have done an un-official survey of REW sites and have found that the ones with the larger spacing between lines appear more appealing to my eyes and easier read. I am sure that is 100% an opinionated statement, but it appears cleaner, crisper, easier to glance or skim read as a lot of folks do on websites.

If I could get this changed it would be greatly appreciated, if I need to pay for the time that is fine.

Thanks in advance.

p.s.-similar to Ed Kirklands & John sells homes sites.

Murphy's law...I only found one http://www.edkirkland.com/ and the John Sells website. Aren't their font spacing between lines larger? They appear to have line spacing at 1.5 rather than 1.0 spacing. Let me know if I am imagining things.

I'm not sure if there is a real benefit for doing line spacing at 1.5 or what ever they are set at, or not. They just appeared a little "cleaner" in appearance. If you think it is a waste of time, no problem.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Hi, Ed. I looked at the stylesheet for the Kirkland site. It sets a line height of 1.5 (150%) on the <body> tag, so unless overridden, that value will be inherited by all the elements of the page. You're not imagining things.

It's never a waste of time for us to improve your satisfaction with our product.

I have added some additional line-height to the content areas of your website. I increased it from a measurement of 18px to 22px. It's alright if you don't understand exactly what these numbers mean, I am including them only so that you can have some idea of the magnitude of the change. It will give you a sense of what you might like if you want it to be tweaked again.

I think in general it can help to add some line-height. It can make it easier to scan across a line. It's also important to prevent the line from becoming very, very long, because then one's eyes tend to have trouble scanning. Sometimes, though, a page can become longer than you'd like, and then it becomes a trade-off of reducing line-height or breaking up a page into more than one. Those are just my general thoughts on it.

Non-professional developers often overlook the importance of line-height. Thanks for raising the issue, Ed.

I agree with everything you just said and thank you for changing that. It think less, more relevant material is a much cleaner look and easier for visitors to scan and read, making it more likely they will stay and use your site.

Thanks again-- I guess overall it is simply a personal preference thing. I have seen many REW sites doing very well with both formats.

Sounds like we're on the same "page". Heh. It took me 3.5 days on the job to make the worst Internet pun I've ever heard.

Certainly, we have clients with many different ideas and preferences, and we serve all of them. A website represents your business, and your opinions and preferences about it are very important to us. Thanks for sharing yours.

lol, he's being politically correct and very gracious in his words. Those of us at the bottom of the intellect scale appreciate that at times.

Thanks again Fergus.
