REW PPC Takes California! Google Partners Summit 2016
From November 9-11, the REW PPC Team had the opportunity to attend the Google Global Partners Summit in San Francisco. This year, the summit was held off-campus at the Westin St. Francis Hotel in the heart of San Francisco. Google flew in over 900 attendees from 51 countries to share the latest in Google paid search, technology and best practices for measurement to help us serve our clients even better!
The first day kicked off with a welcome reception, an address from the Alphabet & Google CFO Ruth Porat, and networking with the world’s top talent in Pay-Per-Click Advertising.
Anne and I began the day at the Women’s Leadership Breakfast (sorry guys, ladies only!) where we enjoyed a 270 degree city view of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge the from the 32nd floor of the Westin. In addition to the view, we were inspired to be in a room full of women in tech, sharing ideas, and learning about specific challenges and opportunities women experience from a panel of top female business owners and directors working in digital advertising.
On the Main Stage, speakers from Google’s Management Team covered topics including digital video, programmatic advertising, cross-device remarketing, and other best practices. A top topic this year was the mobile-first world and the latest in mobile trends, research and insights.
Some key takeaways included:
82% of smartphone users say they consult their phones on purchase they are about to make in store
91% of smartphone users turn to mobile for inspiration when in the middle of a task.
This year, the conference also featured Breakout Stages: Product Stage, Customer Stage, and Company Culture Stage. My favourite was the Product Stage on “Leveraging Programmatic to Achieve Reach, Relevance and Results Across the Web.” For me, this was highly relevant to the work we do at REW for our PPC clients. The key takeaways included: reaching the right audience, sending the right message and using the right bid to create and manage successful campaigns.
After a full day of speakers and education, we got to relax at a fabulous 1920’s themed reception at the San Francisco Mint. Complete with flappers, dancers, a live jazz band, a photo booth and an incredible spread of food; Google spared no expense!
On the last day, we were bused out to the Google Campus in beautiful Mountain View, CA for “Google on the Green” where we had the opportunity to check out the latest in Google technology for ourselves! We learned from Google experts about the Google Chromebook, Nest accessories and home security, and the latest in virtual reality technology, the Daydream View (which is like the Google Cardboard but a fully-immersive experience allowing the user to explore the world, experience video in 360 degree panoramic view, or play a round of golf from your living room). After checking on the latest in tech the REW PPC team hopped on the Google bikes for a quick tour of the campus (and to check out the gift shop!).
Overall, the Summit was a fantastic experience. We were given a hands-on opportunity to check out Google’s latest innovations and learn from their top leaders. As well, we had the opportunity to connect with other industry experts from around the globe. The REW PPC Team brought home lots of tips and ideas that we are excited apply to our client accounts to make them even more successful.
