5 Destinations You Can Walk To From REW Summit

Daniels & Fisher Tower in DenverWith the REW Summit only a week away, we can't wait to hit the city of Denver and explore some of its infamous sites. When you have a few minutes to spare in between sessions or after hours, here are a few destinations you can check out that are within walking distance of the Westin Downtown Hotel:

1. Daniels & Fisher Tower

Walking Distance: 1 minute

Located in the Skyline Park directly beside the Westin, The Daniels and Fisher Tower will be hard for Summit attendees to miss! This iconic 20-storey clock tower features a 2.5 ton bell, and was built in 1910 as part of the Daniels & Fishers department store. At night, the tower lights up and can be seen from almost anywhere in downtown Denver. Cost of admission to the top of the tower is $15. and this beautiful building is officially listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

2. Larimer Square

Walking Distance: 5 Minutes

Larimer Square is the oldest block in Denver, and is known for its historic charm and vibrant lifestyle scene. Complete with restaurants, shopping, comedy shows, bars and nightclubs, Larimer Square is a great place to burn off steam any time of the day. With top-rated restaurants like Osteria Marco, Rioja, and Euclid Hall, plus it's highly convenient location, Larimer Square seems a likely evening spot for most Summit attendees.

3. Denver Millennium Bridge

Walking Distance: 15 minutes

This peculiar little pedestrian bridge is a popular haunt with neat architecture and a decent view. The suspension bridge's single mast can be seen from many spots in downtown Denver, while structurally supporting the unique landmark. Oh, and former visitors say you simply must cross over to the river to try a cone from Little Man Ice Cream while you're there.

4. South Platte River Trail

Walking Distance: 20 minutes

Those craving a scenic escape can head over to the South Platte River Trail, a 28.5-mile asphalt trail that runs alongside the river. This would be a great place for a runner to start their day. Begin the trail in Confluence Park and head NE to check out the 19th Street Bridge—another of Denver's interesting sights.

5. Elitch Gardens Theme & Water Park

Walking Distance: 25 minutes

Get your adrenaline pumping after REW Summit by heading to the Elitch Gardens Theme Park! Spread out over 65 acres, Elitch's has 6 roller coasters, 21 thrill and family rides, and a water-park called Island Kingdom. Elitch Gardens was formerly a Six Flags theme park, prior to being sold in 2006. Though no longer under the Six Flags brand, the majority of rides are still the same.

Bonus: Westin Rooftop Pool

Walking Distance: 30 Seconds

Sometimes the best destination is the one you're already at... At the beginning or end of a long day, head on up to the Westin roof where you can take a dip in the heated outdoor pool, or bask in the sun on the open-air deck. This stunning oasis overlooks the Denver cityscape and has beautiful views of the nearby Rocky Mountains. Ahhh, we can hardly wait...
