Career Spotlight: Heather, SEO & PPC Specialist
1. Hi Heather! What do you do at REW?
Hi! I'm an SEO & Pay-Per-Click Advertising Specialist here at REW.
2. What does a typical day look like for you?
When I get in in the mornings, the first thing I do is check my emails and plan out how I'm going to divide up my time for client projects. I spend most of my day creating unique content for client websites and managing PPC campaigns.
3. What is the most interesting part of your job?
It seems like there is a change to the search engine marketing game every day! Add in the diversity in our project work and every day presents an interesting challenge and new learning experience.
4. What aspects of your work do you look forward to?
The people! I have the privilege of working with the most amazing group of people in the SEO and PPC department – talented, motivated, kind, and hilarious. We have a great working dynamic that is unique to see in a group that is growing as fast as our department is. I could go on for days about how much I love working with this team, but I'll leave it at that.
The culture that has been cultivated at REW is so refreshing. It doesn't matter what department you're in or how long you've been here, this is one giant team and you really feel it from day one. It's this culture that has attracted the great clients we have the pleasure of working with every day.
5. Why did you choose REW?
Real Estate Webmasters was an easy choice for me. I'm a born and raised Nanaimoite and have watched REW grow and make a splash in the real estate and tech industries. It's so inspiring to see a local business grow like REW has. I recently graduated from VIU and wanted to find a place that were I can hone in my skills and get a solid start on my career.
I love working at REW because I know I'm getting a strong start to my career, great compensation, and I get to live in my favourite city while doing it! It's so exciting to be a part of a company that is making so many impact moves, I come to work every day feeling inspired.
6. What do you do in your spare time?
I love the phrase "spare time". Anyone who knows me will tell you that I don't do well with down time so I tend to keep my schedule as filled as possible. My friends and family like to joke that I'm a "joiner" meaning that I like to get involved with a variety of non-profit groups and organizations. Aside from that, I try to get to the gym at least five times a week, spend time with my friends and family, and explore this incredible place we get to call home.
7. Can you tell us about your volunteer work?
I'd love to! I've been volunteering with the CIBC Run For The Cure – Nanaimo for several years, starting with helping out on Run Day and progressed to joining the organizing committee two years ago as the Communications Lead. This year I'm taking on the role of Run Day Experience Lead as well as Communications Lead. Every year I'm blown away with the energy at Run Day, it's an incredible experience.
In the recent past, I had the pleasure of joining the MBA Games Organizing Committee as the Operations & Logistics Executive for the academic components of the BC and National MBA Games. The MBA Games (both BC and National) are annual events that invite teams from Masters of Business Administration programs either across BC or Canada to compete in 3 categories: academics, spirit, and sports.
I think I'm most proud of what my team was able to accomplish during the National MBA Games. We hosted over 500 delegates from across Canada and beat the national fundraising record, raising $300,000 for the Moosehide Campaign. During my student career at VIU found my passion for event organization through my role in the Business Students' Association, the Vancouver Island Leadership Conference, and being a founding member of VIU's Mark It Up marketing conference.
8. Where might we run into you on the weekends?
On the weekends you will likely find me out for a hike, out with friends, or at an event I've spent months planning.
