Powerball Real Estate

Powerball lotteryThe absolutely colossal Powerball lottery $588 million dollar jackpot seen this past week was more than enough to inspire day dreams across America (we were fantasizing about it in Canada too). And though it’s unlikely one single person will win the entire jackpot, wouldn’t it be fun to pretend? Let’s imagine that we’ve won… of course, we don’t want our fantasy to be totally unrealistic, so let’s account for taxes. With the dust settled we still have about $385 million dollars to spend. Let’s start house hunting!

Rated a couple of months ago as the third most expensive home in the world (unfortunately we still can’t afford #1 or #2), this Hyde Park penthouse was purchased for $225 million dollars, making it the most expensive real estate transaction in the history of England. Complete with bullet proof windows and a panic room, this two level, six bedroom apartment is a fortress that will keep you and your remaining $100+ million dollars safe and sound.

If you’d prefer to stay over on our side of the pond, then maybe The Hamptons would suit you better. For only $220 million, you could own Fairfield Pond. This estate is situated on 63 acres of perfectly manicured grounds with over 100,000 square feet of buildings that include a basketball court, tennis and squash courts, as well as a bowling alley. This mansion has 29 bedrooms and 39 bathrooms to accommodate your fabulously large entourage that will suddenly spawn up overnight upon your Powerball win.

Hearst Castle PoolAnd finally, for those more frugal, we have a home reasonably priced under $200 million dollars. Though it’s officially a National and California Historical Landmark, everything has a price, and you have the money. Built in 1919, this west coast manor is located in San Luis Obispo, California and is absolutely stunning. This glamorous property is situated atop a hill and has 29 bedrooms, three pools and several tennis courts. Afraid you might get bored? Don’t worry; it also comes with its own movie theater and nightclub.

What would you do if you won $385 million?
