Here’s how to set up subdomains

Hi everyone,

I’m back again to share another great feature of the Renaissance website: subdomains! If you’re not using them yet, you might be missing out on a huge opportunity. Subdomains allow agents to have their own site while still being connected to the main brokerage’s website. No need to have a separate one!

Here are the other benefits:

  • Brand consistency: Agents get their own professional site without losing the credibility of their brokerage. Everything stays under the main domain, reinforcing trust and recognition.
  • Better routing: Leads captured through an agent’s subdomain go directly to them, making follow-ups more efficient.
  • Niche marketing: Agents can focus on promoting their specialty (specific neighborhood, property type, client demographic. etc.)
  • Cost-effective: No need to invest in separate websites, everything runs on the Renaissance platform.

One important tip: Set your default subdomain first. This makes sure all new subdomains follow the same structure automatically. It won’t change the ones you’ve already created, so it’s best to do this upfront.

Watch our instructional video on how to set up subdomains on Renaissance:

You can also check out the tutorial video on REW Academy and the subdomain blog post on the Resources page.

If you’re using subdomains already, how’s it working for you? Drop your thoughts below!

Giving it a try but some issues. The footer loads with communities but no way to edit the footer. Also do not see a way to edit the phone number top right. No company logo just Renaissance. What am I missing?

Are you editing the snippets for the footer and phone number?

I was not. Thanks

Hello SRF. I can assist you with editing the logo and phone number on your subdomain.

If you have followed all of the instructions in the above video, and you are currently editing your agent subdomain, you will want to do the following steps:

site phone number:

The site phone number at the top of your website is housed in a specific snippet that you will need to search for in the backend. This snippet is called #site-phone-number#

Once you are logged in to the backend of your website, you will want to use the small magnifying glass in the top right corner of the backend to search for the correct snippet. You can see this search function highlighted in the screenshot below:
image

You will want to search for the correct snippet - it will look like this:

you will see a line of code that is displaying the current phone number on the subdomain that has the following structure:
image

for this snippet, you will want to follow the same structure, but change only the numbers. The first number you will want to add without hyphens, the second number is how you would like the number to be visually displayed.

How to change subdomain logo:

The logo on the agent subdomain is changed through the same backend function as the main site. There are 2 segments that correlate to the two different spaces that display your logo: the top of the site and the footer.

for the top nav logo, you will want to navigate to the settings in the backend, then to the CMS section. This is shown in the following 2 screenshots:

Scrolling down this page there are going to be some upload spaces for images as well as the logo description space:

To display the logo at the top of your site, you will simply “choose file” and add your logo to the “cover page logo” and “content page logo” and you’re done!

There are a few “best practice” recommendations that I have.

The size of your top logo is important - it will correlate to the size of your “header banner” if you are using one. Our recommendation is that you use a logo with approximately 240x64px but this can depend heavily on what type of logo you have.

You will want to resize your logo until it looks the way you would like it to look.

My second recommendation is to add a “logo description” to help with SEO - This can just be the name of your company (ex: “Real Estate Webmasters logo”)

My third recommendation is to add a “retinal display logo” This is for Mac users visiting your site.

The retinal display image must be twice the size of your original logo. If the normal logo size is 240x64 then you would want to add an image that is 480x128.

The footer logo is changed by adding an appropriate image to the #footer-logo-left# snippet.
If you require assistance downloading images to the backend to use in snippets, please let me know in this thread and I will make a separate post about the process.

the footer logo snippet looks like this:

Below I have highlighted what sections you will need to change in order to add a new logo photo file:

< a href=“/” aria-label=“Go to homepage”>
< img src=“insert image here” alt=“description of the image”>

editing the footer:

In order to edit the footer, you will need to search for the #footer-body# snippet in the backend of your site.

A full description of how to edit this segment would also probably be best in another post if you would like a walkthrough as this post is getting a bit long, but let me know if you require the assistance and I will be happy to help!

Hey, Thank you for reaching out. I simply did not realize after watching the video that you can do all the edits to the subdomain that you can do to the main domain. That is pretty cool.

One question. I see that as the administrator I do not see the “EDIT” option in my agent area??

Can you screenshot where you are referring too?

I do not have the Edit Info under my name…

Hi Russ, to edit your own profile, you’ll need to go to Preferences.

Ah! Because you’re super admin  - What Hannah said!

I go to preferences but there is no option to EDIT an add a subbdomain. Maybe I need to add me as an agent first?

If you are looking to add a personal agent subdomain, I would suggest creating a specific agent profile for yourself as the super admin profile is connected to the “default subdomain”

Hi @SRF! Like @carey.david suggests, you would need to create an agent profile for yourself, as super admin you can’t have a subdomain since you’re basically the owner of the main site
