Sendgrid issues, Email Verification etc

@Morgan asked me to post this here for all to see his reply.

AGES ago I set up Sendgrid after (I think this is the reason) REW said we needed to do that. I also have email verification. Is this still common practices? I know forced is but should I still uses email verification? One down side to email verification is the massive # of older/senior clients who once in a while will email me that they are “old” and can’t figure it out.

Also Sengrid is often unreliable since I am on a shared IP and have to always stay on top of it…now I am having issues for certain email providers not getting my emails from my REW sites, aol, yahoo and a few others just sit in limbo “processing” in Sendgrid (these are leads of mine that prior were always getting emails)… is it safer to let REW Servers handle the emails again? Would I have less deliverability issues?

Also sendgrid told me to also set up Domain Authentication and Link Branding (in Godaddy) to help has anyone done that and is that needed too?

Thanks.

First part of your question: NO WAY! Never use email verification unless you have to. Note, some email providers (hotmail, Yahoo etc) do require it, so you can’t turn it off for some unless you have your own IP, sending solution.

Also note, if you have a VOW (Virtual Office Website) for example to access sold listings, your MLS board may “require” it, in that case, you also don’t have a choice.

BUT

If you do have a choice, never use it. It sucks.

Second part of your question: REW servers do not handle email (like at all). Your referencing a time VERY long ago (back in the rackspace days) now that you’re upgrading you’ll be on GCP (well you are already) but my point is Google Cloud does not even allow transactional email.

REW does provide sendgrid services at no charge, but it is also on a “shared” IP, the best practice if you want to maximize your delivery is actually upgrade to Sendgrid unique IP service.

It costs a few shillings, but it means you never run the risk of a shared IP having issues caused by someone else on your same IP.

OK thanks …trying to recall why I was told I had to use sendgrid (was mandrill at that point) if I wasn’t using email verification. I’m probably confusing myself on what was required but recall REW required me to do something… email verification or if email verification was not turned on then I had to use sendgrid.

So seems to fix the issue of my leads not getting emails would be to stop using sendgrid or just pay for the prop dedicated IP plan. Seems dedicated IP with sendgrid would be best vs rew sendgrid shared IP?

Yes, at your volume and the relatively low cost of dedicated IP I always recommend going private IP
