URL structure for property details

Are there any recommended practices for SEO with the url? I noticed on Carly’s website the URL for properties includes “homes-for-sale” and then the price at the end. I always assumed shorter was better for URLs but is there any best practices for URLs for property details, neighborhoods, blogs, etc?

A follow up question: How damaging is it to change the IDX URL structure on well established sites?

Jury is out on how much “positive” impact having a KW in or out of the URL is, but certainly the length will not impact SEO (shorter just looks cleaner).

Short term, big impact, long term it’s a nothing.

Here’s why: 100% of your IDX URL’s will change anyways. The reason for this is the page 404’s once a listing is gone, and so lost that URL either way.

Losing the all at once? You’ll feel that in your analytics, but it’s essentially the same thing that happens on a per URL basis when a listing goes under contract. You just don’t notice it as much since 1 page leaving that had very little traffic doesn’t make a blip on your reports.
