I just finished writing an audit post for the Chris Colgan project, and a big part of the content revolved around identifying targeted vs non-targeted traffic.
What we discovered in that thread (SEO audit thread located here) was that there was a huge spike of non-targeted traffic that came from Chris’s Prince William County Fair blog post.
In the audit thread, we talked about the importance of going after “targeted” SEO traffic, but that non-targeted traffic is also important.
So how do we make the most of non-targeted traffic? There are lots of ways, but let me hit you with just one to get the creative juices flowing.
So Chris has thousands of folks visiting his site (and seeing his brand) based off his County Fair post -
What would I do if I was him? I would create a CTA (Call to action) would led to an offer directly related to the folks thinking of attending the fair.
For example -
Higher cost: "Any homeowner who enters their details on form x (link to website) gets free tickets for their whole family to the fair. Free of charge!
Lower cost: "Any homeowner who enters their details on form x (link to website) gets entereed into a draw for tickets for their whole family to the fair. Free of charge! (guarnteed winner every day)
Hybrid - "Any homeowner who enters their details on form x (link to website) gets free tickets and very special customer experience (maybe free food, rides make the prize much bigger but have less of them) for their whole family to the fair. Free of charge!
Of course you would have some T’s and C’s like
You must verify your contact details (cell phone and email address)
Maybe you must share this offer on your social media to quality (bigger boost)
Limit one entry per homeowner (and you must be verified as the homeowner)
But imagine you got 50 or 100 leads (home owners) in your database (ready to sell or not) from this - AND you got a bunch of social media exposure, etc as well.
Want to make it a “bit” more targeted. On that post, I might have had an IDX snippet/section “closets homes for sale next to the fair” or “Cheapest homes close to the fair” -
There is just so much you can do in order to maximize your “non-targeted” blog posts (which you SHOULD be writing) in order to actually get business out of them.
What other ideas can you think of to make “non-targeted” blogs a bit more targeted?
