Real Estate Tech and You

Last month, I was putting together the final touches on the perfect page. Everything looked fantastic, and I sent it to one of the developers I had been working with, for a final technical review of the content. "The image is blurry." Pardon? I know my way around an image or two and was confident he made a mistake. I triple-checked for the second time, and confirmed it wasn't blurry in any of my desktop's browsers. Satisfied, I shared my conclusion with the developer. His response? "Use your iPad." ...And there it was. A perfectly optimized, strategically placed, undeniably blurry image. What happened? High resolution screens, that's what. We've been so caught up in speed optimizing our real estate websites that developers are only just starting to…

Click here to view the PDF version of this case study. The Challenge Gary Zimmel first came to Real Estate Webmasters because he wanted a new website for his brokerage, Challenge Realty, in Edmonton, AB. That website, MyEdmontonHomeFinder.com, went live on January 6, 2015, and a PPC campaign for the site was launched January 16, 2015. Gary started a PPC campaign because he wanted a website that would pay for itself, while also helping his real estate team of close to 100 agents secure more clients. New agents would be able to get a foot in the door, while experienced agents would have a steady stream of client traffic. "The reason why we started Pay Per Click was to not only help our new people out, but to help established realtors, if they were in dry…

1. What is your position at REW? As Director of the Product Development team, I currently support a talented group of team leads, designers, programmers and developers in launching REW's suite of technologies. 2. What does a typical day look like for you? The general cycle is pretty simple, I start with a plan for the day and complete the objectives I had set out. There are typically 3 key areas I focus on: A) Projects - are they on schedule and within the scope of work and quality expected? A daily scrum meeting takes place every morning on the major projects with the purpose of understanding every team member's achievements from the day before, what they have planned for the current day, and what the barriers are for continuing their efforts on the…

Many folks are familiar with our "dedicated developer" program (and some are not) - but what most folks are NOT familiar with is many of the enhancements and processes we have adapted thanks to the addition of our REW Enterprise program. We have been building / testing this new platform for nearly 2 years now, and have seen tremendous improvements in both throughput and project quality. As such, we have decided it is time that we share this new, advanced project methodology with the larger population of REW customers, starting with the dedicated developer program. Let's start with a quick overview of the new way: Agile Methodology Project management: A project manager is now assigned to all major projects. This allows for a much needed single point of…

We live and breathe SEO here in the writing department at REW, which means we see all the incredibly awesome things that are happening in the SEO world. It also means that we see the site-crippling mistakes people are making, and those aren't quite as awesome. Here's a list of the biggest repeat offenders I see in my day-to-day and an explanation of why they're bad: 1. Outdated Practices One of the most common problems with modern SEO is an unwillingness to adapt. SEO is constantly evolving and developers who don't do the same will fall behind. I see a lot of people ignoring the advice of their SEO expert because they know a guy who had "Method X" work and by gosh, he got leads! Unfortunately, Method X is often some spammy link exchange strategy from…

We've released another new update to rewLeads Beta, our new lead management app, to our beta testers. Our main goal for this release was to make one of our favorite features even easier to use: rewLeads Auto-Routing. With Lead Auto-Routing, rewLeads can intelligently assign incoming leads to your agents according to custom rules that you create. For example, you can have residential leads over $800K go to a certain set of agents, while Seattle leads go to someone else. To get started, navigate to Settings -> Lead Routing and ensure that rewLeads Auto-Routing is selected. Then, tap Rules to start creating your custom routing rules. Tap the + button to create a new Rule, or tap an existing Rule on the list to edit it. This will bring up a dialog…

Are you a new to intermediate realtor / broker (or perhaps quite experienced but just late to the internet marketing game?) I'm writing this article for you.  Now most folks know REW (Real Estate Webmasters) for our super high end, custom projects and working with clients like Barbara Corcoran (Shark Tank) and Fredrik Eklund (Million Dollar Listing New York) as well as powering many of the top teams and franchises in the country.  This is what is known as our "elite / enterprise" category. And while it's true, the kinds of products and services that are used by this group is generally out of reach for those starting out with internet marketing our largest category of customer actually lives with another division of our company and that is what is known…
