I've been thinking a lot about "big picture" SEO strategies, and how we can apply them to the real estate industry. To start, there's convincing evidence that page one content continues to get longer, yet each industry also has its own content trends. Over the past couple weeks, I ran an experiment to help determine a better content baseline for the real estate industry. I looked at page one results for "[city] real estate" for 22 major cities across the United States and Canada, and recorded the amount of content on each of the top results. This experiment gave me a better idea of what our clients' competition is doing, and helps set new content targets, based on the average number of words on top-performing pages. The result? 1,568 words. That's the…

In fact, with every trend is a lesson, and those lessons teach real estate agents how to thrive for decades to come. 1. Transactions Are Becoming More Complex The era of simple real estate deals is over, as brokerages are starting to break out of their traditional molds and take on new verticals. As top producers and increased competition have impacted profit margins, brokers are seeking new opportunities for profit.…

Last Updated: June 23, 2017. We've received a few questions lately about impending Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation changes, and just wanted to take the opportunity to help clear some things up. Let's start with a disclaimer that this is only one interpretation of CASL and its implications, and you should review the original legislation and seek proper legal counsel if you think CASL may impact your business in any way. This post is going to focus on email marketing, but remember that CASL applies to any commercial electronic message, which includes emails, texts, instant messaging, social media messages, and so forth. Back when CASL first went into affect on July 1, 2014, the legislation included a three year transition period to help businesses cope…

Last month, I was putting together the final touches on the perfect page. Everything looked fantastic, and I sent it to one of the developers I had been working with, for a final technical review of the content. "The image is blurry." Pardon? I know my way around an image or two and was confident he made a mistake. I triple-checked for the second time, and confirmed it wasn't blurry in any of my desktop's browsers. Satisfied, I shared my conclusion with the developer. His response? "Use your iPad." ...And there it was. A perfectly optimized, strategically placed, undeniably blurry image. What happened? High resolution screens, that's what. We've been so caught up in speed optimizing our real estate websites that developers are only just starting to…

Click here to view the PDF version of this case study. The Challenge Gary Zimmel first came to Real Estate Webmasters because he wanted a new website for his brokerage, Challenge Realty, in Edmonton, AB.
